Yesterday, June 20th, a ribbon cutting took place at the new Texoma Council of Governments (TCOG) building. A number of representatives from each county were present. Members of the state government were in attendance. The open house gave people a chance to tour the new building. Citizens were also able to meet local and state government officials. Texas representative Ron Clark, as well as Texas Senator Craig Estes, opened their office doors and chatted with whomever came by. Sherman Mayor and TCOG President spoke at the dedication, voicing his enthusiasm about upcoming issues. Texas Representative Ron Clark presented Frances Pelley, TCOG executive director, and the rest of the members of TCOG with a Texas State flag that once flew over the state capital building in Austin. Texas Senator Craig Estes whose inspiring words reminded us that it was not the building we were honoring, but rather the people and the services they offer to the community. The day ended with the actual cutting of the ribbon, and a little bit more friendly conversation. This area TCOG unites Fannin County, Grayson County, and Collin County together. TCOG goal is to “continually improve the economic, social, and educational opportunities” for the people under its jurisdiction. Organizations such as the Area Agency on Aging and the Texoma Housing Partners are ways in which the council hopes to achieve its goal.
