Huge Garage and Bake Sale Benefits Frontier Village and Education
Article
Come find a great deal on something you will love, and support a good cause at the same time! A perfect opportunity for that occurs on Saturday and Sunday, March 5th & 6th, 8 am – 5 pm, when the Preston Trail Chapter NSDAR of Pottsboro holds a HUGE fundraiser garage sale and bake sale at Alverson Refrigeration located at 612 E US Hwy 69 in Denison. There will be lots and lots of quality items and fresh baked goods from many homes. All proceeds from the sale will go to the Frontier Village in Denison for the repair of the historic Price Shaw cabin and to support school projects. Any items not sold at the end of the sale will be donated to the Frontier Village to be sold in their own community garage sale on March 26th when the Village will be full of garage sales. If you only go to one sale this week, go to THIS one! You will do yourself a favor and do good for the community at the same time – win-win! This event is hosted by volunteers of the Preston Trail Daughters of the American Revolution in Pottsboro. In addition to promoting local historic preservation projects, one of this chapter’s areas of service is to America’s veterans. The entire Preston Trail chapter participates in fundraisers that fund a program called “Opening Doors for Disabled Veterans,” which remodels the bathrooms of disabled veterans of Grayson County so they will become handicap accessible. They support various programs which help preserve historic documents and buildings. They do fundraisers for college scholarships and participate in other service-related activities too numerous to mention. Would you like to be involved in the good works that DAR participates in? Anyone interested in receiving help to prove their ancestry for qualification to become a Daughter of the American Revolution are welcome to contact our chapter at any time at www.facebook.com/PrestonTrailNSDARPottsboroTX75076 or at https://texasdar.org/chapters/PrestonTrail/ for our website. The Preston Trail Chapter of the DAR next meets the first Thursday of the month at 5pm for a meal and fellowship and at 6pm for chapter meetings and programs from September to May. There is no meeting in December. The meeting location is at the Georgetown Baptist Church north of Pottsboro at 207 Georgetown Road. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With more than 177,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world's largest and most active service organizations. DAR members are committed to volunteer service having served more than 12.5 million hours in communities throughout the world during the past three years.
