Pottsboro, Texas – The Preston Trail NSDAR hosted their yearly awards banquet on May 3, 2018. The meeting was presided over by Regent Vicki McComack, with the assistance of all the chapter officers: 1st Vice Regent, Natalie Bauman; 2nd Vice Regent, Catherine Giles; Chaplain, Gay Hilbert; Registrar, Sandy Sharp;
Recording Secretary, Gloria Morton; Corresponding Secretary, Linda McAnaney; Treasurer, Lisa Lettie; Historian, Carolyn Dexheimer; Librarian, Beth Bowling and Parliamentarian, Jonnie Templeton.
Many of the individual chapter members were awarded certificates for their achievements in service of the community and veterans and for historic preservation. The chapter as a whole also received many awards from the Texas State Society DAR for their work during the past year.
We were honored to award our Scholarship winner, Cassandra Hammond with a $2,000.00 Scholarship, and our DAR Good Citizen Winner, Tyler VanDuser a $225 cash award. Our Unsung Hero Recipient, Billy Teague, received a Challenge Coin to honor his many years of service. The chapter was honored to present a special Posthumous Award to Bill Neyman for recently deceased DAR daughter Martha Butts Neyman along with a DAR Service Patch for her more than 650 hours of service to the veterans at the Bonham VA Hospital. Another DAR Service Patch was awarded to Jonnie Templeton for her more than 860 hours of service to veterans. Our 1st Vice Regent and American History Essay Chair, Natalie Bauman, was presented with the DAR Apple Pin for a program encouraging middle school students to study history. A special appreciation went out to Horace and Jeanne Groff for their generous donation of money and time in providing the food and all the decorations for the awards banquet. All the funds received for the dinner were donated in honor of the Groffs to the George R. Reeves Masonic Lodge to be used for a college scholarship.
The Preston Trail Chapter of the DAR meets on the first Thursday of the September through May at 5pm for snacks and fellowship and at 6pm for chapter meetings and programs.

There is to be a special program in July by the Preston Trail DAR chapter, open to the public, to help find their patriot ancestors.
